Boris Johnson pranked in 18 minute phone call
Boris Johnson was severely embarrassed today after pranksters pretending to be the new Armenian prime minister Nikol Pashinyan managed to fool him into accepting his call.
The Foreign Secretary was strung along for eighteen minutes. Highlights included a claim on the part of the would-be Pashinyan that Vladimir Putin was funding the Labour Party - Boris Johnson asked for more details.
The culprits were experienced actually Alexei Stolyarov and Vladimir Kuznetso, who have previously claimed a whole number of high-profile victims including Turkish president Erdogan and Elton John. They have been accused of being Kremlin-aligned, due to the striking alignment of the timing of their calls and Kremlin press releases.
Senior diplomatic sources claimed that "Boris rumbled them pretty quickly”, despite the fact that the call lasted for eighteen minutes and included the divulgence of sensitive details surrounding the poisoning of the Skripals, and the supposed hit back by the British Government against Russian Oligarchs. The Foreign Affairs committee recently accused the Government of turning a blind eye to said oligarchs, as we reported the other day.
The latest gaffe will renew the calls for Theresa May to sack the bumbling Johnson. But with Tory leadership manoeuvres already afoot, and the Prime minister weak and friendless, it is highly unlikely that she will.
