Donald Trump threatens to pull the plug on US trade deal
In an interview with the Sun, Trump claimed that May had wrecked Brexit, and launched a pathetic attack on Sadiq Khan.
The president went into excruciating detail over every slight and gripe he had about the UK and the British Government. He said that if the Chequers plan were to be carried forward, it’s very unlikely that there would be a US trade deal. This is a huge blow to the Government, as they had been counting on this deal as an ‘easy win’, to show the benefits of Brexit.
He also claimed that the EU had ‘ruined’ Britain because of immigration. Sadiq Khan was also in his sights, as he erroneously suggested that Khan was responsible for terrorist attacks taking place in London - a comment which has been widely condemned, even within the Conservative Party. Showing how deluded he really is, he also claimed that Boris Johnson would “make a great Prime Minister”.
Needless to say, the interview breaks every diplomatic protocol on the books. But it’s the latest in a long line of outbursts from the maligned president.
Protests are expected to take place around the country today, with the largest happening in London and Glasgow.
Commenting on Trump’s visit, Jeremy Corbyn said:
“Theresa May has invited President Trump to our country at a time when his dangerous and inhumane policies are putting the lives and well-being of millions of people at risk.
“We are committed to dialogue, including of course with those we strongly disagree with and in government, we would find a way to work with his administration while also standing up for our values.
“But instead the Tories are rewarding President Trump with a red carpet welcome.
“We must show Trump and the Tories that we can and we will defeat the politics of division.”
