Gordon Brown endorses Lesley Laird for Deputy Leader
After Lesley Laird exclusively declared her candidacy for the Deputy Leadership of Scottish Labour Leader on Red Robin, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has endorsed Laird.
In a statement Gordon Brown said, “Lesley Laird succeeded me as Labour MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath and is currently interim deputy leader of the party in Scotland.
“I hope the Labour Party in Scotland will now elect her as deputy leader.”
Laird's candidacy was beginning to gain momentum with a host of others endorsing Laird including Glasgow MP Paul Sweeney.
Excited to see my colleague and friend @LesleyLaird, Shadow Scottish Secretary, standing to be deputy leader of @scottishlabour. Lesley has shown incredible organisational skill in managing our mostly new team of MPs here at the UK Parliament since June. She is the right choice. https://t.co/LChmhDiA8A— Paul Sweeney MP (@PaulJSweeney) April 23, 2018
