Keir Starmer thanks ‘incredible’ NHS staff after mother-in-law’s death

Leadership contender Sir Keir Starmer has thanked the NHS staff who cared for his mother-in-law in recent weeks after a tragic accident.

He said on Twitter: “No words can express the depth of our thanks to all the incredible staff at St Mary’s Hospital intensive care unit for the care and support they provided to our family these past two weeks.”

Fellow leadership contenders Lisa Nandy, Rebecca Long-Bailey and Emily Thornberry, have all sent condolences and solidarity to Starmer and his family.

The former director of public prosecutions remains the front runner in the battle to succeed Jeremy Corbyn having secured the most CLP nominations.

After CLP nominations close on 14 February, the ballot of all Labour members will open on 21 February before the new leader is announced on 4 April.
