Labour is not just an opposition but a government in waiting - Jeremy Corbyn

Writing exclusively for the Red Robin Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn.

I am delighted to be among the first to write for Red Robin. I look forward to reading what others think about how Labour can build a Scotland for the many not the few.

Our party and our movement is brimming with ideas and debates about the future. It is out of these discussions that we created our manifesto for the general election last year and will find radical and effective solutions to the great challenges of our times.

This week we fleshed out our approach to Brexit, based on our priorities of protecting jobs, our economy, living standards and the environment.

But whether in or out of the EU, we must break with the Tories’ ideological obsession with austerity and privatisation – hand outs for the rich and spending cuts for the rest of us.

Poverty and homelessness are on the rise while the wealthiest 1% in Scotland own more than the bottom 50%. Too much wealth and too much power rest in too few hands.

Scotland needs real change after years of austerity imposed by the Tories and passed on by the SNP. Scotland sorely needs a Labour government in Holyrood and Westminster.

At last year’s general election, we won back six MPs in Scotland and many more are now in sight. Our task is to build on that support under Richard Leonard’s leadership.

Labour is not just an opposition but a government in waiting, ready to transform our country so it serves the interests of the many, not the few.

Our whole party has a role to play, our affiliates, our councillors, and our grassroots members old and new.

I hope Red Robin will play its part too and I wish it every success.
