Labour rallies as election confirmed
MPs have voted in favour of a general election to take place December 12.
Labour candidates and activists have rallied on social media, with several campaign launches scheduled for key battleground seats.
Polling expert Professor John Curtice predicts a hung parliament, with a Labour government formed through a pact with the SNP and Lib Dems.
Labour candidate Faiza Shaheen will be joined by popular MP Laura Pidcock and Guardian columnist Owen Jones to launch her campaign tomorrow.
Jeremy Corbyn MP, Leader of the Labour Party, commenting on the House of Commons voting for an early general election, said:
"This election is a once-in-a-generation chance to transform our country and take on the vested interests holding people back.
"The choice at this election could not be clearer. A Labour government will be on your side, while Boris Johnson’s Conservatives – who think they’re born to rule – will only look after the privileged few.
"We will now launch the most ambitious and radical campaign for real change that our country has ever seen. This is our chance to build a country for the many not the few and fit for the next generation."
