Parliament REJECTS shutdown for Tory conference

The House of Commons has rejected a proposed recess to allow Conservative MPs to attend their party conference in Manchester.

MPs voted 306 to 289 to reject the motion, which means parliament will sit throughout the conference.

It is understood the conference will still go ahead, however it is unclear how the government will attempt to manage any votes in the house.
