People's Vote campaign in chaos after senior figures sacked

The People's Vote campaign has been plunged into chaos after self-appointed chairman Roland Rudd sacked two popular members of senior staff.

Rudd, brother of former home secretary Amber Rudd, emailed staff on Sunday evening announcing the sacking of the campaign's media chief Tom Baldwin and director James McGory.

The campaign is a coalitionĀ  of different pro-EU groups which includes Open Britain, Our Future Our Choice and the European Movement.

Rudd had promised a meeting with staff on Monday morning, however he failed to show in favour of an appearance on Sky news.

It is reported that the majority of the campaign's staffers walked out of the office in protest at Rudd's no show, with several embarassing tweets rubbishing Rudd's statements in the media.

One staffer, Charlie Atkins, said on Twitter:

"@RolandRudd told both the @FT and Radio 4 that he's constantly in and out of the People's Vote office and knows staff well. I'm in the office every day and I've never met him."
