Sadiq hits back at Trump
Sadiq Khan has hit back at Trump after the American President made a series of offensive comments about the mayor, insinuating that Khan was responsible for terrorist attacks in London.
The Mayor also slammed Trump for suggesting that immigration had ‘ruined’ the UK, saying that:
“The idea to blame immigration from Africa is preposterous, and we should call him out when does.
"I'm also quite clear that although there has been an increase in violent crime across England and Wales, including London, over the last four years, I don't think the rise in crime is because of immigration.
"It's for Trump to explain why he thinks there is a link between immigration into Europe and the rise in crime."
Trump also blamed Khan for the series of terrorist attacks, stating incoherently that:
“Take a look at the terrorism that is taking place. Look at what is going on in London. I think he has done a very bad job on terrorism.”
Khan pointed out that terrorist attacks had taken place in a number of places in the UK, and wondered why Mr Trump had not turned his fire on other mayors:
“It's for President Trump to explain why he has singled me out for being responsible for these acts of terrorism, and no other mayor or no other leader."
We will leave it up to readers to arrive at their own conclusions as to Mr Trump’s motives. But the President also mentioned his displeasure at the baby blimp being flown over London by protestors. Khan had given the balloon the go-ahead, and when questioned the Mayor said that he refused to ‘censor’ free speech.
