Scot Lab council leader hits out at Lisa Nandy campaign after unannounced North Ayrshire visit

Labour council leader Joe Cullinane has hit out at a leadership contender who visited North Ayrshire without telling local members or councillors.

After a video from Lisa Nandy apparently visiting Saltcoats in North Ayrshire was posted online, Cullinane suggested he was disappointed not to have been told.

“If those organising Lisa’s visit got in touch I could have showed her the new council houses round the corner, the renovated Town Hall, the community buyout of part of the train station building we supported with £, @RunningKilt’s boxing gym. Instead we get this video.” he said online.

A Labour source told The Red Robin: “It’s bizarre Lisa Nandy visited Saltcoats without telling anyone from the council or local Labour Party. What’s the point of banging on about towns and local government if you can’t bother to  engage with one of the most innovative Labour councils in Britain.

“Combine with her comments on Catalonia, you get the impression that she just doesn’t know what she’s talking about when it comes to Scotland.”
