SNP MSP lodges Holyrood bid to restrict abortion
SNP MSP John Mason has lodged a motion in the Scottish parliament calling for tougher restrictions on abortion.
Powers over abortion law were devolved to Holyrood recently, and women's rights groups had expressed concern that anti-choice MSPs could bid to change the law.
In his motion, Mason says the parliament should take action to "improve the lives of unborn babies" by restricting current rules which allow women to choose to end a pregnancy before 24 weeks.
Mason has a track record of gaffes and interventions which have often prompted ridicule online.
Labour PPC for Glasgow Shettleston, Leah Franchetti, described the motion as "appalling."
"This is an appalling motion by SNP MSP John Mason. This man is dangerous to women’s health and does not believe we should control our own bodies," she said.
