Sources close to Jeremy Corbyn accuse Mhairi Black of peddling desperate untruths

Senior sources very close to Jeremy Corbyn have accused Mhairi Black of lying over claims in the Huffington Post that Jeremy told Black he supports Scottish Independence.

A senior source close to Jeremy Corbyn said, "this is categorically untrue. It just didn't happen. It is a desperate lie and untruth".

Black told the Huffington Post, “He has sold out in terms of austerity. He has sold out in terms of Scottish independence – because I know that he doesn’t believe the things he says about independence now.”

Asked directly how she knew Corbyn supported independence, she said: “From talking to him.”

These claims have been denied by sources close to Jeremy.

A source said “Since becoming leader Jeremy has been unequivocal in his opposition to Scottish Independence. Time and time again he has said he believes Scotland and working people would face massive economic problems  and difficulties if Scotland was to leave the UK but still Black, her Party and others feel the need to try and smear Jeremy on this issue.

The source also said, "it shows how scared the SNP are of Jeremy that they use Mhairi Black as their mouthpiece to constantly attack and smear Jeremy and the Labour Party in Scotland”.

“It is no surprise that they are on the attack given how much the SNP are now being exposed for their systematic failure to protect Scotland from the Tories while Labour in Scotland under Jeremy and Richard  Leonard are now winning back the trust of people of Scotland with their message of Real Change For the Many Not the Few”

Black has been approached for comment but had not replied at time of publication.
