Suspended SNP councillor who shared blog comparing Jewish woman with rant by Hitler pictured celebrating with SNP MP
An SNP councillor banned from council activities by Scotland’s standards body was pictured celebrating with a newly elected SNP MP.
West Lothian councillor Frank Anderson was sanctioned by Scotland’s standards commissioner after he shared a blog post which compared GMB Scotland official Rhea Wolfson with a quote from Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf.
The Sunday Mail has now published a picture of Anderson alongside SNP MP Hannah Bardell and other party activists at the election count after her victory in Livingston in the 2019 General Election.
Bardell was unaware Anderson was present in the picture, according the the Sunday Mail.
Discussing her role in the Glasgow Council equal pay dispute, the pro-independence Grouse Beater blog shared by Anderson and authored by Gareth Waddell, cited Hitler accusing “the Jew” of “gradually assuming leadership of the trade union movement".
Wadell was suspended by the SNP for the blog, however he denied that the blog was anti-Semitic.
Anderson has “apologised unreservedly” for sharing the blog, and insisted he was not aware that Wolfson was Jewish when he did so.
Wolfson is a well known Scottish trade unionist who served on Labour’s national executive and has spoken previously about her experiences as a Jewish woman in public life.
