Tory benefits boss says food banks “perfect way” to help nurses in food poverty

The UK Governmen’s Secretary of State for Work and Pensions told a Labour MP she thought food banks were the “perfect way” to address food poverty.

Responding to a question from Labour MP Zarah Sultana, who said the need for food banks was a “national scandal”. Thérèse Coffey said:

“I visited a similar food bank in my own constituency that has been working together with food redistribution schemes. Marrying the two is a perfect way to try to address the challenges that people face at difficult times in their lives.”
